Our Organisation

Bless China International is an Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) registered in the United States and in the People’s Republic of China. We work to care for the poor, to share knowledge and to love people in China’s Yunnan Province.

History

Our work began in Xishuangbanna, a southern prefecture bordering Burma, Laos and Vietnam. Rob Cheeley, an American physician, began a cooperative effort with the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Health in 1994 to train village doctors. Two years later, Dr. Lai Yong Tan of Singapore began working with Dr. Cheeley, and a second site for a similar project in the capital city of Kunming was opened.

In 1997, a small group of professionals already working in Yunnan formed a partnership with Drs. Cheeley and Tan, committed themselves to a common vision and purpose, and formed Project Grace. The vision brought many other expatriate and national workers to join the cooperation. In 2003, the name was changed to Bless China International (BCI- which is a registered 501c3 in the US). BCI is also registered with the Yunnan Provincial Government, and now partners with local governmental entities to accomplish its work. Partners include the Bureaus of Health, Agriculture, Civil Affairs, AIDS Prevention, Water, the Disabled Federation, Yunnan International Non-Governmental Organization Society, Yunnan Agricultural University, other educational institutions and orphanages.

Today the work spreads across 8 geographic sites (Chuxiong, Dali, Dehong, Diqing, Kunming, Nujiang, Wenshan and Xishuangbanna), where our people are living and working fulltime. The professional focuses are in Medical/Dental, Agriculture, Micro-Enterprise and Business Development, Child Services, Community Development, HIV/AIDS prevention/care and Leprosy.
